Certainly it is not the Easter we had planned or that we have ever experienced. We are reminded that Jesus has risen from the dead and we continue to be isolated in our homes. Most of us are fortunate to be able to stay in touch virtually. I am most grateful to Alfredo Chu, Rebeca Reinoso, Cora Asuncion, Nadia Bruschetta, Angel Lee, Sisters Karina and Angela, Deacon Bruce and his wife Cecilia, Father Henri Claude and the others who have helped in many different ways so that we can stay in touch with our parishioners. As the weeks drag on we must be attentive and obedient of our leaders and medical experts with regard to the measures that have been put in place to fight this virus. We, as a Church, join with religious groups all over the world to do our part in fighting the spread of Covid 19. It is a difficult task for us as Catholics. We are a communal Church. It is of our essence to gather together in prayer and to celebrate the sacraments. We see it as our responsibility to be of service, to reach out to others. The early Christians risked their lives to gather in the Catacombs to celebrate the Eucharist and the other sacraments. I do not believe that we are to risk our lives or the lives of others by gathering at this time but perhaps the inability of gathering together allows us to have a greater appreciation of the Eucharist and that we are called to community. Please be assured of our prayers and please pray for us. Fr. Richard and the Pastoral Team of Our Lady of Sorrows
Many have been asking how they can make their Sunday offering. You can leave your donation at the parish office by simply sliding it through the door. Please do not leave your home if it is not safe to do so. You can also mail checks to the parish at Our Lady of Sorrows, 555 Slocan St., Vancouver, BC, V5K 3X5. You can give on line. Go to olos.ca and at the very beginning of the page you will see a bar that says “Sunday offering”. Click on that bar and a form will appear. Fill out the form. Of course put “Our Lady of Sorrows” in the appropriate place. These donations will be sent to the parish. Your generosity is very much appreciated and we understand that if at this time you cannot contribute. Times are tough for everyone.
Note of Thanks
Thanks to all those who have donated food these past weeks. Many families were helped because of your generosity. In one day alone over 60 families received help. All appropriate measures were taken to keep everyone safe. God bless all those who participated!
